THIS RING ::::: AUSTRALIAN NEWS WITH GARY TODD |
| JULY-AUGUST
2005
Former
super lightweight king, Kostya Tszyu,
will be returning to the ring, but not as a fighter
just yet. While no decision has been made on "The
Thunder From Downunder"s retirement, Kostya Tszyu
will be travelling back to his homeland , Russia, to
assist his protege and future world champion, Anton
Solopov.[ 10 fights , 8 kos] Solopov is a talented,
well schooled fighter who oozes class, and is so good,
that in Australia, no one wants to fight him. If Tszyu
decides to hang up the gloves for good, no doubt he
will pass on his experience to the young Solopov and
together, they will conquer the world. Definately, one
to watch. www.kostyatszyu.com

Sam
Soliman has been waiting patiently, fighting,
winning and has been hammering on Bernard Hopkins
door for the last couple of years. With "The
Executioner"s defeat, from Jermain Taylor's
stinging double jabs, and not much else, Hopkins wants
a rematch, to try and make amends for his terrible
misjudgement of tactics . Unbelievably, he thought
he won easily. With millions of dollars to be made,
the rematch will definately go ahead, probably in
mid december. In the meantime, Jermain Taylor will
be stripped of the IBF portion of his undisputed collection
of belts. Sam Soliman is the No1 contender and the
No2 contender is the Nigerian slasher, Kingsley
Ikeke. Ikeke and Soliman will probably fight
for the vacant IBF middleweight championship of the
world, sometime in October. www.samsoliman.com

 Also
in October, Hussy Hussein will be
summoned back to hell by the mexican devil, Jorce
Arce, to fight on "The night of rematches"
fight card , as the main support, to possibly the
best fight i've ever seen, Diego Corrales v Jose Luis
Castillo. Hussein fought with great heart and gave
his soul to Arce in their first encounter, and if
the rematch is half as good as the first fight, then
fight fans will be in for a blood and guts classic.

 Jeff
Fenech and Billy Hussein's body puncher, Nedal
Hussein could be packing his bags and his
winter woolies, when he travels to Scotland in late
October, to face WBO Featherweight hardman, Scott
Harrison, for his world championship belt.
This is a voluntary defence and the Aussie body snatcher
feels he has what it takes to bring back the belt
to Australia. " Harrison is made for me, and
i know i can stop him" www.teamfenech.com

 IBF/IBO
flyweight world champion, Vic Darchinyan
has had his ups and downs in 2005. Darchinyan is the
type of guy that just shrugs it off and keeps training
hard , knowing that things will get better. Darchinyan
had trained hard for his upcoming end of July show
in Sydney, but was let down at the last minute , due
to his opponent, Jair Jimenez's visa
problems. With this fight now off, all he can do is
keep going, and train until the final date is confirmed.
Meanwhile, legendary manager Frank Maloney, has popped
up as expected, and represented Irish flyweight contender
Damien Kelly, as his mandatory right
to fight Darchinyan. Kelly and Darchinyan title fight
could quite possibly go to a purse bid scenario, and
whatever happens, the fight will definately go ahead
in late Oct/ November. www.vicdarchinyan.com
